Sports Results Service

June 22nd, 2008 · by admin · Site Management

Despite the late decision to offer a live results service for yesterday’s North Isles Sports, we were able to alert The Orcadian in time for them to post the information to their web site. As a result, this web site had around six hundred visits from links at The Orcadian.

Webmaster’s note: We deploy two forms of statistics collection, which operate differently and give differing figures.  Between the two services, we have a reasonable picture of activity on this site. The figures given below are from Google Analytics, which gives a very detailed view of countable statistics. The countable statistics are however entirely reliant on the visitor’s web browser set-up and are therefore incomplete. We can be confident in saying that in every case, the real number is higher than that counted by Google. WordPress, the software used to build this site, provides its own statistics. These are more complete, but less comprehensive (and less comprehensible.) Any figures in parentheses are for comparison and come from the WordPress statistics.

For the 24 hours from Midnight – Midnight, Saturday 21st June:

  • There were 448 visits to this web site
  • by 262 unique visitors
  • 1,845 Page Views were counted (2,033)
  • 453 visits came via the link at The Orcadian (510)
  • Visitors came from 7 countries: UK 438, USA 4, Canada 2, Norway 1, Chile 1, Spain 1, Ireland 1
  • 56.7% of site visitors had not previously visited the new Sanday web site
  • Activity peaked at 50 visitors in the hour between 6pm and 7pm, and remained busy all evening – we even counted 13 visitors in the hour up to midnight.

In the previous week, by comparison, the unique site visitor count varied from 12 to 30 per day.

The increased site activity has continued throughout Sunday 22nd June and we have been averaging 20 visits an hour since 8am today.  665 page views had been made up until 4pm, with a further 148 visits via the Orcadian web site today.

We can only presume that the service has been appreciated, as it has been so well used. There has been no qualitative feedback or comment received yet. Please contact the webmaster if you have feedback or suggestions for an improved service when the North Isles Sports return to Sanday.

Thankfully, nothing broke under the strain! The new web site seems to have come through its baptism of fire unscathed.
