A full programme of Ranger Events for June has been published: Monday 2nd June Start Point is the destination for the Sanday Ranger guided walk today. A couple of hours on the tidal island looking at the birds, flower, lichens, shells and shipwrecks. - Papay Excursion June 8th 2008
In the first event of its kind, the two North Isles’ Rangers led a joint expedition to Papay on Sunday June 8th, taking advantage of Orkney Ferries’ Sunday excursion. Anne Bignall’s Eday group met up with Rod Thorne’s Sanday contingent, and arrived on Papa Westray at noon. A minibus shuttle soon had the 2-dozen strong group in the company of Papay’s RSPB Summer Warden Lorna Dow, who led everyone round the first part of the island’s spectacular North Hill reserve. - West Side Walk 4th June 2008
There was a really international flavour to the second outing of the year to the west side, where you have a chance to see some of the island’s breeding seabirds. Two sisters, one from the Netherlands, the other from Denmark; a family from Germany; and a young lass from South Africa. Also, a couple of brothers whose home is Sanday – one visiting briefly from his workbase in Australia, the other recently back after 18 months in Antarctica.
