This is a reminder that the Christmas Fair takes place on Sunday 6th December at the school, starting at 2pm.
There will be plenty of stalls selling local and seasonal items, refreshments will be available (provided by the Cubs and Scouts), the Fiddle Club will be playing carols and Santa will be in attendance.
The Sanday Fiddle Club were performing in Glasgow last week. They played Max’s composition “A Birthday Card for Prince Charles.” Classic FM recorded their performance and it was aired on the Anne-Marie Minhall show yesterday afternoon. If you missed it, you can use the Listen Again feature on the Classic FM website. The show went out between 3pm and 5pm on the 14th Nov and will be available for 7 days from that time.
(We should have a full report of the trip on the site soon.)

NHS Orkney are about to begin the recruitment process for the new Sanday GP. The advertisement is scheduled for this weekend’s edition of the British Medical Journal and will also be advertised via the WWW. Applications will be taken over the ensuing month and interviews are to be held in the New Year. NHSO are advertising three posts for the North Isles at this time.
Sanday Community Council and Sanday Development Trust are supporting the applications process with the aim of securing the best possible candidate for Sanday. As part of this process an attractive and informative booklet for applicants has been produced and is integral to a larger pack of information and printed materials.

Sanday: a place to live, a place to work
Applicants will be able to download the booklet directly from this site and may contact Sue McArthur for a printed copy together with the extended pack, or speak to her directly for further information.
A GP Recruitment section has been added to this web site for the duration of the recruitment process.
The Sanday Tourism Association is pleased to announce
Sanday’s first Jig and Swig
- a beer and traditional music event -
is taking place from Friday October 30th
until Sunday November 1st.
Over the weekend you will find something to please everybody, please come along and participate as much as you want to!
Beer:

Black Isle Brewery
The Kettletoft Hotel will be selling a range of guest real ales on draught from the Black Isle Brewery – we have three to choose from over the weekend, but you’ll have to drink one of the barrels dry before the third goes on… why not come along and try them all, from Saturday lunchtime… until supplies run out! Mark will also be selling his usual selection of beers etc. The Chip Shop hours are unaffected.

An invitation too good to refuse
The Belsair has a tasty selection of guest bottled ales for you to select from: Marston’s Pedigree, Wychwood Hobgoblin and from Shepherd Neame, we have Spitfire and Bishop’s Finger. Guest bottles will be available from Friday evening and throughout Saturday opening hours.
All of the guest beers are very attractively priced.
Entertainment:
The weekend kicks off on Friday, with the usual Traditional Dancing session at the Community School, 7:30 – 9:30 pm.
On Saturday morning at 10:30 am (Kettletoft Hotel), Rod the Ranger will be hosting Sanday Hallowe’en Tales, a folk tale tour by minibus. We will be visiting some of the folklore sites on Sanday; tales will be told… they may be scary… The event finishes up at the Kettletoft Hotel at 12:30, for a warming and nerve-soothing lunch of soup and sandwiches. Donations will be invited to cover the cost of the bus, please pay for your own lunch. Booking is essential – book early, this is bound to be a popular event this Hallowe’en weekend. Contact Rod on 01857 600341, email or call at Nearhouse.
Traditional music sessions will be taking place during Saturday evening at both the Belsair and the Kettletoft. Featuring Sharon Hassan, the well-known traditional fiddler, and members of the Sanday Fiddle Club. There will be plenty of opportunity to join in, so please bring your own instruments – voice, spoons, fiddle, whatever – just come along and make music! (There’s plenty to whet your whistle with, remember.)

Sharon Hassan
Session Times: Belsair 8:00 – 9:15 pm (approx) Kettletoft Hotel from 9:30 pm until steam runs out.
Sanday’s own Fiddle About will be performing at the Kettletoft on Sunday afternoon, from 3:00 pm
