The Sanday Experience

The Sanday Experience 2019

Over the last few years, we have found increasing numbers of visitors come out to the island for just a day. In order to give them a chance to learn a little about Sanday's natural and social history, 'The Sanday Experience' is run. On Wednesdays this year, from May 8th to September 25th (inclusive), the package is as follows:
The white Sanday Bus meets the Orkney Ferries sailing from Kirkwall (ferry departs Kirkwall at 1010 and arrives at the Sanday terminal at midday - the cost of the ferry is not included) The bus carries booked passengers to Heilsa Fjold at the centre of the Island, arriving at approx. 1220-1230.

Islander Mary Lennie meets the group and all have light lunch while watching  the short film Sanday in Focus. Then, at approximately 1330-1345, the group sets off on a 3-hour guided tour of the Burness and North End peninsulas with Mary, ending at the Heritage Centre, the Croft Museum and a unique reconstruction of Sanday’s amazing Meur Burnt Mound archaeology.
The visit to the Heritage Centre allows members of the group to have a cup of tea or coffee and a home-made cake before the bus driver takes them back to the ferry terminal for the return trip to Kirkwall. This leaves Sanday at 1815, arriving in Kirkwall at 1940.

Cost: £40 (reduced rate for under 16s)

To Book: phone 07513 084 777 by 12noon the day before.
