Kettletoft Regeneration Scheme - Project Coordinator

36 month fixed term contract
Hours variable across the term – 3,600 hours in total
£11 per hour plus pension contribution

With the purchases of Harbour House, Kettletoft Stores and the old Co-op Yard by the community now complete, the Trust is looking to recruit a project coordinator to manage the renovation of these properties, in order to bring them back into use.

As with any major renovation project, the ability to work with the architect and contractors to ensure that the project is designed and delivered to time, cost and quality targets is vital, and the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate experience of project management and working within a construction environment.

As this is a scheme to renovate and bring back into use community owned assets, the project has diverse strands that go beyond simple redevelopment. You will therefore need to be both passionate and proactive in order to deliver the other vital elements of this role; community engagement, partnership working, coordinating volunteers, publicity, project evaluation and reporting to funders and the Board of Directors.

With so many aspects to the project, this will be a varied and interesting role and you will be supported by the Projects and Grants Officer as well as the Trust’s Build Sub-committee in order to take it forward.

Excellent communication skills, experience of project management and a high standard of organisational skills is essential for this job, as well as the confidence to coordinate/lead teams and a flexible approach to working patterns - which may include some evening or weekend working at times.

Sanday is an amazing place to live, with a very easy going way of life. The beaches are fabulous, accommodation to rent and buy is very well priced, incomers are welcomed and there is an active social scene for those that like to get involved.     Many islanders have set up local businesses offering goods and services. However, with regards to employment, things tend to be a little different to what is considered normal elsewhere.

Those that are employed often have a couple of small jobs rather than one main job. Some island businesses offer employment, mostly part-time. Much of Sanday is agricultural land and there is nearly always farm work available for those who are willing to work hard. The fish farm operated by Scottish Sea Farms, located off the neighbouring island of Eday, also provides employment for Sanday residents.   Another option to consider is homeworking handling calls or doing online chat, facebook, etc. The central area of the island has reasonable broadband and there is a growing trend towards this sort of work on the island. Whilst homeworking has received negative press in the past, residents are successfully able to 'make a living' from this type of work when employed by reputable firms.
